I believe that while this protest against cruelty is justified, the traditional UGG Boot is made from sheepskin and not from other animals. Sheep are slaughtered for their meat, and I personally see no reason not to put the skins to good use. As long as we eat mutton, the skins will be there. So why not use them? However, for those who still feel uncomfortable with real skin, fake fur UGG Boots are available.
The second controversy is about who invented the UGG Boot. Both Australia and New Zealand claim that prestige. It is believed that some of the earliest versions were worn by aviators in the days when airplanes were still open to the wind and cold.
The third controversy is more light-hearted but very enthusiastic. It is all about how to wear the UGG Boots; when to wear them and when not to wear them.
Some fashion gurus have set guidelines about this, and people being what they are, it started a storm of fashion protest about their opinions. In the world of fashion, it just takes a rule about what to wear, and there will be a huge movement to break that rule!
The first rule is that the UGG Boot is a cold weather fashion item. This means that you don't wear them with summer clothes, and Never to the beach or any other summer-appropriate place.
The reaction to this is that people love to wear them with summer clothes, bare legs, shorts, mini skirts. They have even begun to fill a practical purpose for surfers, who wear them when they come out of the water in their bathing costumes, to warm up their toes!
In order to make a fashion statement they are supposed to be worn with neat, semi casual trousers or slacks, or well fitting denim jeans. Winter tops and jackets in contrasting colours and fabrics complete the picture.
It has been frowned upon for people to wear UGG Boots with very casual clothes such as sweat suit trousers, hence a most popular way to wear them was born! You should never wear these boots with matching sheep wool coats. So far, not too many people choose to do that and look like Eskimos, but give them time and they will! Why not?
So, what does all this mean? It means that everyone loves the UGG Boots. The old and the young wear them. Men wear them, women wear them, boys and girls and even tiny kids wear them. Conventional fashion gurus wear them the 'right' way and independent spirits wear them the 'wrong' way, but they are great fun and super cosy too!
